Dogs on the Gibb River Road

by Matilda and Matt
(VIC)

G'day B, just wondering about the Gibb River Road and if it's ok to have our dog come with us?
I know that the King Leopold Rangers Conservation Park runs through the road and am assuming that dogs are not allowed in that area but what about camping along the rest of the road?
All the best!

Dogs and camping along Gibb River Road
by: Birgit

Hi Matilda and Matt,
This question has been asked previously. Please see:

Taking dogs along the Gibb River Road
Travelling through the Gibb River Road area with dogs

A few additions to the existing info:

Drysdale Station and Diggers Rest Station both allowed Jules to take her dogs. Charnley River, Mt. Elizabeth and Mt. Barnett say pets are ok. (But I'd always confirm that before heading there. Just to make sure they haven't changed their mind.)

Kalumburu is also a dog friendly place.

Bush camping along the Gibb River Road is becoming more difficult. The Barnett River Gorges are now closed to campers. Not sure what the situation is at the Durack and Pentecost. Currently the locals still go camping there as always, but they may crack down on that as well once the Dry starts.

Mind you, Barnett River used to be an authorised bush camp site. The Durack and Pentecost sites were never authorised in the first place...

Hope that helps!

Gibb river in 2013
by: Brian and Fran

Hi fellow travelers!

Is there anyone out there planning to travel Gibb river in 2013 with their dogs as we are hoping to met up with other dog lovers along the way to maybe doggie sit each other’s pets while we visit National Parks. We have a very well behaved Border Collie who we can't leave behind at home and would like to share the trip with other like minded travelers.

About to do the Gibb River Road with our two dogs
by: Sharon and Steve

Yes we are about to do the Gibb River with our two dogs Magnum and Sako Start tomorrow We know we will be restricted but we wouldn't leave them home for quids. We are on the road for 8 weeks total. The Gibb only a small part of that. Up to now they have been great. They have enjoyed swims along the way but won't be doing that now for awhile with the crocs. We'll let you know how the Gibb goes
