Broome Sunset

Broome Sunset

I and my two children (daughter, 15; son, 17) had the pleasure of seven weeks Down Under from 28MAY-15JUL2006, and I am now writing my fourth book about the odyssey.

Unfortunately, that scant amount of time meant we were unable to cover large segments of Australia, namely, the Northwest sector, between Perth & Darwin (as well as Tasmania and many other islands).

So it is by omission that I can say a return is imminent, with the focus on that most wonderful, as of yet unvisited, section centered on Broome. I know it is more of the same wondrous Australia, only better. I fervently anticipate return within a few years time.

Boring Broome
by: marisa

Broome is the most over-rated place I have been to. I am a West Australian. The beaches in Perth are much better than Cable Beach.

Not Really...
by: Birgit

Hi Marisa,
I do agree with you to some extent. Broome is over-marketed and misrepresented.

I am West Australian, too. We have seen so many other magnificent places on the WA coast. It has to be the most beautiful coast line in the world!

Cable Beach does nothing for me, but that's because any beaches that consist of nothing but sand and shallow waters are boring to me. Nothing to do but lie on the beach... It's not my cup of tea. (Give me rocks and reefs!)

But I've always liked to go down there at night, after the pub, with the esky, to continue whatever conversation was going :-).

People from Europe are blown away when they first land here, no matter where they land. And hey, if someone wants to visit the Kimberley, then Perth is just a bit far away for a day at the beach...

I also like Broome, at least in the off season. (I make darn sure I stay well clear of it between May and October!) But again, after living up here for near 15 years I have a different perception of what constitutes a crowded place...

Thanks for your input. And if you have some photos of your favourite beaches, please do submit them and tell us a bit more about them!
