Northern Territory/Western Australia border restricted goods

We will be travelling to the Kimberley soon, towing a caravan and crossing from N.T. to W.A., I have read your list of quarantine restricted goods and wish to clarify whether dried herbs fall into which category, plus are live herbs in small pots permitted.

I note honey is restricted, I don't understand this one, please explain. Many thanks.

Hi Helen,

Did you read just the website or do you own the e-book? In the book I give a link to this page. It has more detail. If you then still need clarification about anything you can ring the quarantine people.

Phone: 08 9334 1800, their website is here

You can't take home dried fruits or vegetables, or any that are not dried to industrial standards. Commercially packaged dried fruit and vegetables are fine. That includes herbs.

So any packets/jars of herbs that you buy in the shops are fine. If they are from a farmers market or from your garden then you can't take them.

Live herbs in pots are definitely prohibited! You can't bring in any soil, period.

Re: "I note honey is restricted, I don't understand this one, please explain."

You can't bring honey into WA unless it is certified heat treated. Bees can get bugs and diseases and of course those are transmitted via honey.
I'm sorry if that is a problem for you, but it's necessary. Like all the other restricted items this rule is in place to prevent the movement of bugs and diseases that we don't have yet.

Hope that clears it up!

(By the way, there are no restrictions when going in the other direction, from WA into the NT.)

A few years ago I had honey taken off me at the boarder I had purchasd in QLD, note this honey was from WA! So why was it taken off me when I entered WA?
